All items are Made in Cornwall and the shop sells works of art, crafts and food from 40 local makers. The interior boasts a range of unique scaffolding furniture which is also for sale. Sharon and Ian themselves produce ranges of clothing, cushions, light shades and food which are displayed among selections of jewellery, ceramics and other local craft pieces. The Old Lifeboat House Bistro is a relatively small but quirky bistro, steeped in local history with an unobstructed view of Penzance Harbour and St Michael’s Mount. As their name suggests, the building was used to house the lifeboat for some twenty years to 1907 and the bistro is working with the RNLI to include various artefacts and photos to acknowledge this history.
They serve breakfast, lunch and dinners, using local produce. As a reflection of their location, the menu is predominantly seafood and offesr daily specials in addition to their standard menu.
Tea, coffee, scones and cakes are also served.

Make your own eco friendly, cold water surf wax, made from Cornish bees’ wax, tree resin and coconut oil. It’s super easy to make once you know how.
Surf wax is an essential tool to help surfers maintain a grip on their surfboard. Without it, it’s difficult to keep your balance, and you can forget about doing any tricks! U12s must be accompanied by an adult.

SURF SCHOOL
THE CRAFT BEHIND SURFING

Surf School seeks to show surf culture as a respected craft form, presenting a selection of designers, photographers and filmmakers who have made surfing their business, and craftspeople who capture the balance between design and nature.
The exhibition will delve into the origins of cold water surfing with the film I Knew Jack O’Neill by Hamblin Imagery, a film about Skewjack, the legendary surf village at Sennen, and A Road Through Galicia by Luke Pilbeam. Otter Surfboards will be in residence, demonstrating the skill of making a wooden board, and running a workshop for anyone wanting to make their own board. There will also be works by local photographers who focus on surfing, including Dave Muir, Luke Pilbeam, and Jack Johns.
There will be daily workshops and demos, including how to make surf wax.
Exhibitors include Jack Johns, Nick Pumphrey, James Parry, Dave Muir, James Otter & Otter Surfboards, Rich Emerson, Bee Bumps Eco Surf Wax, Hamblin Imagery, Luke Pilbeam, and Pete Geall.

NEWLYN ART GALLERY
“A rural ecologist, an urban drifter and a diasporic optimist examine the invisible layers underneath, the lost spaces on the edge and the forgotten places in between.” Lubaina Himid.
The exhibition explores the work of three artists, Rebecca Chesney, Lubaina Himid, and Magda Stawarska-Beavan, who consider the poetic investigation of place, space and time, through painting, sound installation and place-based research.
All three artists use their work to uncover the hidden, understand a place as it is experienced by those who know it well, and remember apparently unknown histories.
Each artist has made new work for the show.
Invisible Narratives is curated by Lubaina Himid CBE, winner of the 2017 Turner Prize.

Display of camera-less photography documenting the suburban plant life around the galleries, gathered in a workshop.
Participants walked from Newlyn Art Gallery to The Exchange in Penzance, collecting local plant species along the way. They then used lumen and cyanotype photography to produce a beautiful collection of photographic images.

A new collection of work, made especially for this show talks about Willow’s relationship to wild places, to solitude and the silence found in particular environments. Walking in The Seven mountain range in Bergen, she gathered a range of marks inspired by the landscape. They reflect an emptiness and transience familiar in her work. Influenced by Chinese watercolour painting, using black ink and brushes she has created loose free impressions of place, that become emotive and ephemeral. The marks are a reflection on her memories of a place and what can be felt and not seen. They also express Willow’s deep appreciation of lonely places and the beauty felt in momentary experiences.
