Beach clean
Do something good, feel even better. Explore the coast while taking part in a beach clean and help us to create a safer and more sustainable environment for our wildlife – all while enjoying the great outdoors and getting to meet some lovely people. Check the Sustainable Penzance Facebook page to see when they’re hosting the next beach clean at Longrock and keep an eye out for the silent disco events from Plastic Free Penzance.
Protecting nature
Cornwall Wildlife Trust is a charity dedicated to protecting Cornwall’s wildlife and natural environment. Within five miles of Penzance, you’ll find three of the many nature reserves that they look after, including a disused clay pit and a conifer plantation. The charity also offers talks and workshops in the great outdoors. Visit their website to see what’s happening during your stay.
Get involved
Mount’s Bay Marine Group is a group of volunteers dedicated to protecting the local marine environment of Mount’s Bay. They are affiliated with Cornwall Wildlife Trust. In the winter months, keep your eyes peeled for their talks, rockpool adventures and silent disco beach cleans. Find out more here.
Pay-as-you-ride e-bikes
Discover the joy of pedal power and hop on a Beryl Bike to explore Mount’s Bay. Beryl Bikes are pay-as-you-ride e-bikes that you unlock through the Beryl app. There are pick-up points in Penzance, Newlyn, Mousehole and Marazion, so it’s the ideal way to see more of the coast without your car. Birdwatching
Pack your binoculars. In addition to the spectacular scenery, Marazion is home to an array of winged wildlife. You can spend hours wandering along the shore spotting gulls, oystercatchers and curlew, or head to Marazion Marsh Nature Reserve. A community farm in St Just
Bosavern is a community farm, which means it’s dedicated to promoting local food and providing local people with access to land and produce. The farm supplies nearby restaurants with seasonal veg, but it’s also home to beehives, wildflower meadows and a number of allotments.
