Exploring the Penzance area by bike is a brilliant way to fit in lots of sightseeing during your visit – and it doesn’t need to involve lots of hills.

The gentle, family-friendly trail between Penzance and Marazion has been recently upgraded to make it even better for cyclists. Along the route, you’ll be able to see St Michael’s Mount, Marazion beach and a site-specific art experience.

Of course, if you want to travel further afield, you could always hire an e-bike. The extra power makes it easier for groups to stick together while exploring the much hillier coastal routes. Find out more through Ebike Cornwall.

South West Coast Path

Penzance to Marazion (Walk/Cycle)

You don’t need a car to have a coastal adventure in Penzance. This gentle 2.7-mile walk from Penzance to Marazion follows the recently upgraded coast path and enjoys views across Mount’s Bay to St Michael’s Mount (see route here).

While you’re gazing out at the water, it might surprise you to learn that below the waves lies the remains of an ancient forest. To bring this secret landscape to life, local artist Emma Smith has created a site-specific artwork, ‘Gwelen’. You will find her wooden ‘seeing sticks’ dotted along the coast path. The installation is accompanied by a podcast, which will introduce you to Emma Smith and her work.

Pay-as-you-ride e-bikes

Discover the joy of pedal power and hop on a Beryl Bike to explore Mount’s Bay. Beryl Bikes are pay-as-you-ride e-bikes that you unlock through the Beryl app. There are pick-up points in Penzance, Newlyn, Mousehole and Marazion, so it’s the ideal way to see more of the coast without your car. EBike Cornwall

Mount’s Bay tour

Get ready for a cycling adventure. An ebike is a fantastic way to explore Mount’s Bay, as you can pause to take in the scenery, and you won’t need to worry too much about any hills. Cycle from Penzance to Gulval, stopping at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens along the way (check seasonal opening hours), then head to Marazion to experience St Michael’s Mount and the Gwelen art trail. This experience is suitable for an intermediate level of fitness. Ebikes are available from EBike Cornwall, who will also provide you with the circular route.
