Penzance restaurants, cafes and pubs

Our town is often described as ‘Cornwall’s new gourmet capital’. And thousands of delighted diners visiting Penzance restaurants will happily agree. An influx of big-name chefs is making the most of nearby Newlyn’s famous fish market and serving to-die-for pollock, scallops and crab claws (and goat’s cheese tartlets for the vegetarians).

The restaurants and pubs of historic Chapel Street are the town’s foodie hub. Pubs in Penzance, by the way, have enough history to stuff a pirates treasure chest to the brim. Artifacts from shipwrecks and tales of Nelson abound, bringing a historical flavour to a meal or pint.

But we’re only just touching on Penzance’s menu. Local bakeries and delis will tempt you with authentic Cornish fayre such as piping hot pasties, golden saffron cake and creamy-sticky cream teas. Meanwhile, many Penzance restaurants offer takeaways for Friday night feasting.

Gourmet capital, indeed!
