Cornwall Contemporary

Plastic Free PZ

Established in 2006, Cornwall Contemporary is an art gallery with an emphasis on exhibiting work associated with Cornwall. Representing nationally and internationally known artists including Emma Dunbar, Melanie Goemans, Paul Lewin, Alasdair Lindsay, Janet Lynch, Maggie Matthews, Daphne McClure, Emma McClure, Fiona Millais, Ele Pack, Neil Pinkett, Ken Spooner and Kristin Vestgard. With three floors of exhibition space, the gallery is located at the top of historic Chapel Street, close to the public art galleries of The Exchange and Penlee House. The downstairs galleries host an annual programme of solo and group exhibitions which change monthly whilst the two upper floors show a changing mixed display of work by gallery artists. Paintings, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, art books and jewellery are always on display.

“We have to look after the world, because if we don’t take action now it’s too late. It’s really important to show that you are making the effort. For example, I was following the bin lorry the other day and I saw all this packaging coming out of the back of a local business and going straight into the bin lorry! So I stopped and said ‘Can you start recycling it?’ If you do it yourself and you tell other people and set an example, well it’s a snowball effect isn’t it.

“I think people are noticing what Penzance is trying to do. We get people in talking about it and it’s in the media. I think it’s a massively positive step that Penzance is taking and it’s really important. We’re proud to do our bit and in everything we do we are consciously thinking ‘Can we do this better and is it environmentally sound?’. It’s important we all try and do better”

Cornwall Contemporary is our favourite gallery in Cornwall. Sarah goes out of her way to welcome us, to make us feel like friends, to introduce us to our favourite artists in Cornwall and the three floors of exhibition space always has the highest quality artwork. Ghibli the cute gallery dog is an added bonus!”
